There are a host of benefits when you make the move to electric and they are increasing all the time. How about:
Vehicle choice has a dramatic effect on your environmental impact. Transport is one of the biggest and fastest growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Each of us in the UK is responsible for about 27Kg of CO2 emissions per day. Just one gallon of diesel creates about 12kg of CO2.
Electric vehicles produce no tailpipe emissions, dramatically reduce CO2 and produce no urban air pollution and much less noise. Independent European research has shown that even powered from the domestic grid, compared to a comparable vehicle, electric vehicles reduce overall environmental impact by more than 60%!
With the exception of the larger commercial vehicles, all our cars can be charged from a normal three pin socket at home, at work or from a growing number of public charge points around the UK. Charge leads come as standard and there are a range of optional council-approved cables available if required for use at public charge points.
The number of public charge points is growing rapidly. If you're unsure of what's available in your area contact your local council's environment team. Alternatively www.newride.org.uk or www.ev-network.org.uk provide the up to date location of car parks, charging points and their tariffs in and around London.
If you are an employer or run your own business you may have the space to install a simple outdoor socket and create a charge location for your business or your employee's car. And the energy Savings Trust may even help you with a small grant!
